Shane Graham is a Los Angeles–based mixing engineer, composer, educator, and session musician with more than 23 years of performance experience and over 14 years of teaching experience. His extensive background in recording, touring, and music production informs his approach to creating polished, release-ready mixes while helping artists bring their creative vision to life.
Shane's musical journey began at age 12 with the guitar. Although it didn't immediately capture his interest, he would later return to it. A year later, he discovered the drums and instantly fell in love. Shane initially taught himself by playing along to Nirvana and other Alternative and Classic Rock records. He formed his first rock band in high school while also playing in Marching Band and Drum Line. After graduating high school, he began his first formal drum lessons with the great Jack LeCompte, concentrating on the fundamentals of Jazz.
Shane received his BA in Music Industry Studies from California State University, Northridge, graduating with Honors on the Dean’s List with a cumulative GPA of 3.7. While at CSUN, he studied percussion under Aaron Smith, John Roscigno, and Jerry Steinholtz. During college, he developed a strong foundation in music theory, harmony, musicianship, and sight-reading while discovering a passion for composition and piano. In addition, he studied the drums privately with Jason Harnell and Gene Coye, focusing on improvisation and Jazz. After college, he studied with Bruce Becker, a master of technique and protégé of Freddie Gruber. From these lessons, Shane became inspired to become a teacher himself.
For more than 14 years, Shane has taught students of all ages through private lessons, group instruction, and music schools across Los Angeles.
As an in-demand session drummer, Shane has performed and recorded with artists including Dream Phases, Supergloom, Jeff Schroeder, Peter Hook, Mark Lanegan, Draag, The Blank Tapes, Billy Changer, Cullen Omori, Korey Dane, and many others.
He has toured throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Europe, sharing the stage with artists such as The Growlers, Broncho, Luna, Frankie & the Witch Fingers, Wooden Shjips, Sugar Candy Mountain, The Asteroid No. 4, LSD and the Search for God, and Levitation Room.
Wanting to play a greater role in the creative process, Shane taught himself audio mixing during the pandemic. His mixing credits include Supergloom's Black Violet and self-titled EP, Dream Phases' New Distractions, and Gregg Garvey's Woodsmoke. He specializes in Shoegaze, Dream Pop, Psychedelic Rock, Alternative, and Indie Rock.
Shane is currently accepting new mixing projects and continues to perform with his bands, Dream Phases and Supergloom.
